HIGH-PERFORMANCE HYBRID JOINS NEW GS RANGE

Highlight of the Lexus stand at the Frankfurt Motor Show is the GS 450h sedan, making its European debut and due to go on sale next spring. The world's first hybrid luxury sedan, the GS 450h will take its place as the performance flagship of the new GS range. Crucially, though, this car will offer a new kind of performance characterised by unprecedented levels of refined composure.

All GS models mark a distinctive new era for Lexus where depth of thought and intelligent application applies as much to bold and elegant new design as it does to sophisticated high technology. The look of these cars speaks of endlessly sophisticated high potential. It also leaves no doubt that the experience inside the car is as captivating as it is luxurious.

Until the GS 450h becomes available next year, power is provided by a choice of two engines: a newly developed 183kW (245bhp) 3.0-litre V6 that can take you to 100km/h (62mph) in 7.2 seconds, or a 208kW (279bhp) 4.3-litre V8 that propels the GS to 100km/h (62mph) in 6.1 seconds.

A host of sophisticated technological systems underpin this power, including a six-speed, close-ratio, sequential automatic gearbox and two immensely capable suspension systems both optimising driving dynamics, comfort and efficiency. The GS 300 is equipped with a double wishbone and multi-link rear setup and the GS 430 has Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS) which uses electronically controlled shock absorbers.

The cars also feature class-leading safety features including Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), Traction Control (TRC) and Vehicle Stability Control (VSC). The GS 430, however, takes stability and driving smoothness to another level with its Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management (VDIM) system. VDIM pools the resources of all stability and control systems into a 'thinking', proactive unit so it can anticipate potential problems and deal with them before they can concern you.
