Lexus Reveals Exciting Plans for 2015 Motorsports Calendar

April 2, 2015

Lexus recently announced its plans for the 2015 Global Motorsports calendar to reveal a new and exciting chapter in the evolution of the brand with plans for racing on an unprecedented scale.

Lexus Racing will develop an RC F GT3 based on the Lexus RC F for the global stage, to promote grass-roots motorsports and convey Lexus' sporting image. This first year, a total of three vehicles will be built for Japan and Europe. The debut will be in Europe with teams expected to compete in both the Blancpain Endurance Series and ADAC GT Masters. In Japan, the LM Corsa team is scheduled to race in the Super GT GT300 class with the RC F GT3.

Continuing from 2014, Lexus Racing will compete in the GT500 class, the top category of Japanese car racing, with the Lexus "RC F" which will feature a two-liter four-cylinder direct-injection gasoline turbo engine.

Takayuki Yoshitsugu, Chief Representative, Middle East and North Africa Representative Office, TOYOTA Motor Corporation, said, “Lexus has ambitious plans for getting more involved in motorsports with the RC F GT3 spearheading our first global racing effort. Testing our vehicles under such challenging conditions enable us to enhance our vehicles by pushing them to their limits and thereby plant the seeds of innovation for making ever better cars. I would like to thank all our fans for their support of our racing initiatives and we look forward to delighting them even further with our renewed commitment to motorsports activities. From a new racing logo to the creation of a new organization to lead motorsports efforts, 2015 promises to be a landmark year for Lexus in the world of top tier racing.”

GAZOO Racing will also enter two vehicles―a Lexus "LFA Code X" and a newly added Lexus "RC"―in the 43rd Nürburgring 24 Hours endurance race, to be held in Germany from May 14 to May 17.The GAZOO Racing team has been competing in the Nürburgring 24 Hours endurance race since 2007. By providing its own engineers and technicians for the whole process from vehicle development to race team support, Lexus aims for the race to serve as an opportunity to cultivate personnel able to develop ever-better vehicles.

Motorsports has become a growing passion for Lexus, evidenced by its active participation in the Super GT racing series when it introduced the SC 430 GT500 racecar in 2006, and the launch of the RC F to Super GT racing series in 2014. Based on the RC F sports coupe, the RC F GT3 concept is wider, lower, and has been lightened to 1,250kg. Equipped with a modified version of the RC F's V8 engine, maximum output will exceed 540 horsepower.

As further proof of its intentions to develop a globally unified approach to top tier racing, Lexus recently announced a new organization -Lexus Global Motorsports-to spearhead such efforts and introduced the new Lexus Racing logo at the North American International Auto Show.
