Advanced Pre-Crash Safety, Radar Cruise Control

The GS is available with Lexus’s advanced pre-crash safety system with drivermonitor with eye open/close detection system (Optional). Using sophisticatedradar and camera technology, it will warn you if you are not facing forward or if youreyes close for a certain length of time, and activate pre-crash brake assist andpre-crash seatbelts if it senses a collision is imminent. This radar technology is alsoused for the sophisticated radar cruise control (Optional). To help you concentrateon the road ahead, the head-up display (Optional) projects driving data onto thewindshield, while the Blind Spot Monitor System (Optional) uses radar installed inthe rear bumper to warn you of unnoticed overtaking vehicles.

Excellent Protection

In the event of a collision, it iscomforting to know that you and your passengers are protected by a strongsafety cabin. Extensive use of high-tensile steel helped to produce the light yetexceptionally rigid cabin, with structural members positioned to help ensurethat crash forces are evenly absorbed before they reach the cabin space.Inside the cabin, the GS has a comprehensive shield of 10 SRS (SupplementalRestraint System) airbags with dual-stage SRS driver airbag and dual-stageSRS front passenger airbag, SRS knee airbags and SRS side airbags for thefront seats, SRS side airbags for the outboard rear seats (Optional), and SRScurtain shield airbags for the front and rear door windows.

Advanced Safety

EBD works with ABS (Anti-lock BrakeSystem) to help ensure optimum brake force is applied to each wheel. In emergencies, theBrake Assist system automatically increases brake force. TRC enhances the ability to grip the road, especially when starting off or acceleratingon uneven or slippery surfaces. Correctivemeasures are applied the moment the riskof wheelspin is detected, to help maintaintraction. Hill-start Assist Control maintains brakingpressure to help prevent the S350/GS250from moving backwards when starting on aslope. In addition to reducing driver fatigue,it also helps to minimize wheelspin onslippery inclines.

Driver Monitor

The driver monitor system utilizes built-inCCD (Charge Coupled Device) digitalcameras with infrared LEDs to detect if thedriver is not facing forward or if their eyes closefor a certain length of time. The system thenactivates warnings as appropriate. (Optional)

Head-Up Display

Vehicle data such as the current speed, engine rpm and gear shift selection is projected directly onto the windshield in the driver’s field of view. Simplified navigation  commands, audio settings or other selectedvehicle data can also be viewed in the head-up display. (Optional)
